We recently caught out the Demigods of Canadian Thrash Metal ANVIL for a short chat. Here’s the same taken from our last issue of E-mag.
-Hails from Brutal Pokhara! It’s been more than two decades now for anvil but the band is more focused and louder than ever before. What has kept the band going for all this years?
Passion and love for creating and playing music…if you are a true musician this never goes away.
-What’s up with the band lately? How’s the response to ‘Juggernaut of Justice’ so far?
The new album has been received very well and we have been touring in support all over the world.
-If we look at the bands discography then we can clearly see that the band has never stopped playing or have regularly come out with albums/releases. What bind the band together all these years?
Robb and I have a lot in common. We are best of friends. This bond is stronger than the music business and it has and will outlast the labels.
-Anvil fans highly regards the band for not selling out, do you think that this particular thing (Not selling out) can be held responsible for the band’s low profile for over a decade?
This is my personal philosophy that metal music was meant to be underground and obscure. When it gets widely accepted and well known it’s not metal anymore. In most cases in order to get the success like that the music suffers by becoming too soft. It hasn’t happened to Anvil and probably never will. 14 albums NO commercial hits!! Fuck money give me metal!!!
-The whole Anvil story is very inspiring for everyone who are on a verge of giving up their hopes/dreams and the band has given them a whole new meaning to live their dreams once again. Was there a point in your life where you felt that you should quit music and get along with your life?
I made the decision when I was 10 years old that I was going to do this for my entire life and I have with NO regrets.
-How is the band relishing this new life? Now everyone wants a piece of Anvil.
We are living the dream!!! No regular day jobs just full time ANVIL!!!
-What about the band management now. On the documentary (Anvil; Thestory of Anvil) the band confessed that the band never has a good manager and suffered badly as the consequences!
The success of the movie has created enough interest in the band to have acquired management. We are now managed by Rick Sales, Slayer’s manager!!
-What’s your favorite Anvil album?
Juggernaut of Justice
-Is there any immediate studio works that you guys are working on?
We have begun writing for our 15th album.
-Anything you want to say to all the Anvil fans in Nepal?
I would love to come to your country to play for you and hopefully this will happen someday!!!
-We would like to thank you for your time. It was an honor to have you with us!
Thank you very much too!!
