BAND: SYNKRETISMOS MUTARE
ALBUM: LIGHT IN DEPTHS OF DARKNESS
RECORD: KADAATH RECORDS
This is something really interesting that I am trying to review here today. I always had a zest for Experimental/Ambient/Self indulged/Don’t care about you sort of work piece and this release, “Light In Depths Of Darkness“, by the Croatian one man band “Synkretismos Mutare“ is somewhat exactly that. Drawing influences from the likes of Burzum, Xasthur, Frost Like Ashes, Crimson Moonlight and others BornDead (man behind the band) plays, as mentioned earlier, an obscurely distinct Experimental/Ritual Ambient music that is sure to hit you with some haunting experience and a death chill.
It’s tricky when you are listening to this sort of musical work because in most cases liking or disliking solely depends on how well you can relate to the artist mind frame. The album is full of ambient, disturbing in most cases, experimental sound based on mind images of Borndead. There’s, not surprisingly, hardly any well- structured song that most of us are accustomed to except for ‘JanjaS’which has some traces of it. The album deals with the usual death, pain, psychosis to more of surprising elements like beauty and happiness aswell. The track ‘beauty of the soul’ comes as a soothing surprise and adds some much needed diversity to the record and so does the concluding track ‘Alive’showing there’s always a glisten of hope no matter what, after all that’s all we got to cling on to.
This full-length is strictly for those who appreciate the hysteria of ambient music and are open to the idea of self-indulgence and respect the artist state of mind!!
‘Synkretismos Mutare’ or simply Borndead as far as I am concern has succeeded to portray his mind and now it will be interesting to see if his listeners can really relate to this.
